The stars on the Chicago flag represent four major events that changed Chicago forever (Fort Dearborn Massacre, Chicago Fire, World’s Columbian Exposition, and Century of Progress World’s Fair.)
Author Laurie Russell will examine how women responded to these events and, in the process, built the city we know today. The talk includes women who risked their lives in the Underground Railroad, built hospitals and schools, contributed to the arts, created the progressive women’s club movement and more.
Presented by Laurie Russell, a former docent for the Chicago Architecture Center and co-author of the “Women of Influence” walking tour at Graceland Cemetery. She was also a docent and program contributor at the Robert R. McCormick Museum at Cantigny. Her special interest is Chicago history with an emphasis on women. REGISTER
This program is co-sponsored by Thornapple Questers.
