Cassie Chadwick came from nothing and had no education. But she managed to face down the richest man in the world in open court, live like a queen, and take down a banking system.

Her name was Cassie Chadwick and by claiming to be Andrew Carnegie's illegitimate daughter, she led a life of luxury only to be caught and put on trial in the Trial of the Century so engrossing it eclipsed the inauguration of Theodore Roosevelt. Greed in the Gilded Age: The Brilliant Con of Cassie Chadwick is a Gatsby-esque tale of mystery, money, sex, and scandal. Join author William Hazelgrove as he shares how Chadwick conned at least 2 million dollars, equivalent to about 60 million today, simply by claiming to be the illegitimate daughter and heir of steel titan Andrew Carnegie. Playing to their greed, she was able to convince highly educated financiers to loan hundreds of thousands of dollars, on nothing more than a rumor and her word. REGISTER
