Meet with members of the Illinois Prairie Weavers Guild, see several different kinds of looms, and try hand-weaving with experienced weavers! All ages and abilities are welcome to drop in!
Learn about the art and craft of weaving and its history. Weaving is one of the oldest crafts; it is a way to make cloth, by crossing threads or narrow pieces of materials across, over and under each other by hand or on a machine called a loom. Participants will also each have an opportunity to try weaving with experienced weavers to guide their hands.
Illinois Prairie Weavers Guild is an association of weavers, fiber and textile artists, who teach, encourage, and inspire each other. Founded in 1949, the guild increased weavers of all skill levels, from brand new beginners to weavers who teach, own businesses, write, and who have been honored by the weaving community.
