Bertha Honore’ Palmer is often thought of as “The Queen of Chicago,” but there is so much more to her!
Author Laurie Russell will examine her legacy and impact on Chicago and around the world. Vintage photographs will illustrate Bertha Palmer’s life from early childhood, her marriage to hotel magnate Potter Palmer, the Great Chicago Fire, and the World’s Columbian Exposition. Not to be left out are her exquisite jewels and gowns, bringing Impressionism to the Art Institute, and her unlikely role as a cattle rancher in Sarasota, Florida.
Presented by Laurie Russell, a former docent for the Chicago Architecture Center and co-author of the “Women of Influence” walking tour at Graceland Cemetery. She was also a docent and program contributor at the Robert R. McCormick Museum at Cantigny. Her special interest is Chicago history with an emphasis on women. REGISTER
