Sorting and Pack Volunteer Event

Northern Illinois Food Bank - a proud member of Feeding America - is the source of nutritious food, innovative feeding programs, and hope for more than half a million people each year.
 

All volunteers new to helping out at the Northern Illinois Food Bank must complete a consent form Here

Teen and Junior Friends volunteers will also need to complete a Library permission slip found Here

All volunteers will need to arrange their own rides to and from the event.

COVID-19 INFO & VOLUNTEER CONSENT

EFFECTIVE 8.2.21 --- COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES & PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):

Masks are Required for all Volunteers including those who are fully vaccinated at all Food Bank Centers. This applies to regular work activities inside our Food Bank facilities involving Food Bank team members, volunteers, visitors and other stakeholders who are fully vaccinated.

Other Food Bank COVID-related guidelines and expectations remain in place:

Stay home if you are experiencing COVID-like symptoms
Test and quarantine if you are not fully vaccinated and travel out of state to orange-designated states until negative test results come back. The Food Bank follows the Chicago Department of Public Health Emergency Travel Order.
Wash hands regularly
Wear gloves for food packing projects as directed by Food Bank staff
The Pandemic Team will continue to monitor any changes, review and communicate any updates to our guidelines as appropriate

COMPLETE OUR VOLUNTEER CONSENT FORM if you are a new volunteer and bring it with you when you volunteer. Form must be signed by a parent or guardian if the volunteer is under 18.

REMINDERS FOR A SUCCESSFUL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

PROPER DRESS includes sneakers or work boots, long shorts or pants, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. For your safety, medical boots are not allowed.

WEAR FULLY ENCLOSED, LOW-HEELED SHOES on the day of your shift. Volunteers wearing open-toed shoes, sandals, flip flops, soccer slides, Crocs, Keens, high heels, slippers etc. will not be allowed to work in the warehouse under any circumstances. 

JEWELRY may need to be removed for some projects. The Food Bank is not responsible for lost or stolen items; please leave valuables at home. 

ARRIVE AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EARLY in order to sign in and attend a brief orientation prior to your shift.  We cannot accept volunteers later than 30 minutes after the shift has begun.

VOLUNTEERS MUST BE AT LEAST 8 YEARS OF AGE, and minors must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older for the duration of the volunteer shift.
